DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Good Samaritan rescued a child from a pickup truck being taken by a thief Thursday night outside the Kwick Save Mart in the 7100 block of Holly Hill around 8:00 p.m.

Witnesses say the boy's father pulled up and left the truck running with his child inside while he went in to buy cigarettes.

The Good Samaritan told CBS11, he pulled up to the store and noticed a boy banging on the windows of the pickup that was about the back out.

The man, Dennis Molina, said he opened the door and the child got out.  He said as the thief was taken off, he was struck by the truck as it was driven away.  He said the truck hit several cars as well.

"I didn't know at first when he started screaming I thought he was just playing but when I saw the other individual try to take the kid I was getting worried," said Molina.

The child is now safe with his family.

The suspect and the truck, a newer model black Ford F-150 have not been located by police.
