Child Finds Porn On Bookstore E-Reader
SOUTHLAKE (CBSDFW.COM) - A Southlake couple is outraged after their child saw an adult video streaming from an e-tablet sitting on a designated children's table inside a Barnes and Noble store.
"I'm beyond angry. My 4-year-old son just saw pornography," said Sarah Blauser, who said she simply wanted to take her children to a family bookstore.
Now Blauser is on a mission to make sure a similar incident doesn't happen to another family. She issued an outraged warning to parents via her Facebook page that read: The popular Nook e-reader demo tablets sitting in Barnes and Noble stores nationwide, apparently operate without parental controls that block or filter out sexual and pornographic content.
"I was so disgusted. I didn't know what to say," said Blauser, who looked for a Barnes & Noble employee to no avail.
Executives with Barnes and Noble issued an apology to the Blauser family Friday afternon, but confirmed the Nook in-store demos provide unfiltered web access.
"We regret the browser on this particular device was left open on an adult website," said Barnes & Noble in a statement.
The book retailer plans to take steps to communicate a parental disclaimer that the in-store devices aren't password protected.
