PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - A four-year-old boy drowned in his family's backyard pool on Ember Court shortly before 10:00 a.m. Monday according to Plano Fire-Rescue.

Plano Fire-Rescue says firefighters arrived at the home five minutes after the 911 call to find a family member performing CPR on the child.

Paramedics took over and rushed the child to Children's Medical Center Plano where he was pronounced dead.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the United States and children ages one to four years have the highest drowning rates with most of those drownings occurring in home swimming pools.
