Bruce Carter Hungry For Cowboys Playing Time - And A Burger

LONDON, England (105.3 THE FAN) - Bruce Carter is...unsettled. His position as a starting linebacker for the Cowboys. His contractual future in Dallas, and his stomach in London.

All unsettled.

"This food is disgusting!" Carter tells me of the London cuisine choices. "I ordered a hamburger from room service, took one bite, and threw it out!"

Carter is in a playful mood when it comes to gastronomy, but he's far less jovial when the subject turns to playing time, last week in a loss to Arizona and this Sunday against the Jaguars.

"I don't know what it is there," Carter said of suddenly being in a play-time split with Kyle Wilber.

"It's my job to play, so when I get out there, I play."

It seems coach Jason Garrett is in part trying to set up competition for jobs with Justin Durant now out for the season. Rolando McClain (who is nursing a knee injury and ----) is indisputably the man in the middle.

Coaches think rookie Anthony Hitchens has come on well enough to maybe start at weakside linebacker, Carter's old spot; Hitchens had eight tackles against Arizona in that role.

So Carter? He's often billed by the Cowboys as a budding star, but he may also be a fading one as his contract is up, as is McClain's and Durant's. A Cowboys source tells me it's "highly unlikely" Dallas retains all three.

"Kyle did some good things, Bruce did some good things," Garrett said of the competitors' work last week. "And so we'll keep rotating those guys around and see who wants it more and see who deserves it more."

Carter wants the job. Would like a contract. And needs a meal.
