FORT WORTH (CBS11) - Wednesday, the Malaysian Prime Minister confirmed that a piece of an airplane wing discovered on a beach last week belongs to a missing Boeing 777.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 vanished on March 8, 2014, en route to Beijing. The plane and 239 passengers and crew have been missing ever since.

Investigators say scientists will now look at the piece of the wing – called a flaperon – with high-powered microscopes. They hope it will give them clues as to why the plane went down.

Philip Wood, a Keller native, is one of the passengers on the plane.

Wood's younger brother, Tom, learned today of the prime minister's announcement. He says it brings a lot of emotions back up to the surface.

"We'll miss him every day. Those people over in China, Australia, India and Iran – they're all going to miss their people," said Tom Wood.

The last 515 days since the plane's disappearance have been full of false alarms and false hope. Wood says he hopes the identification of the wing will lead to more important discoveries.

"That would be a key thing to find – those two data recorders. Just see what went wrong. What happened up there and get some real proof," Wood said.

Investigators will also examine barnacles as possible indicator of where the plane went down.

"It's going to take a lot to convince me that there wasn't some kind of foul play," said Wood.

No matter where it leads, he says the family wants to say thank you for the support and prayers pouring in from around the world. Strangers have sent his parents cards. People have stopped him in the supermarket to ask how he's doing.

"It's still hard. Things have just settled down, and now to have it bubble back up to the surface – it's not easy to go through this again," he said.
