WACO (CBSDFW.COM) - Despite public pressure surrounding a sex assault scandal involving student athletes, Baylor University issued a statement Tuesday night saying Ken Starr remains the school's president and chancellor.

Rumors began circulating Monday that Starr was about to get fired from his position. The situation comes after at least six women accused 8 football players of assault during a seven-year period.

"I just do not feel so good about this news. Since I'm in Baylor," said Indra Ghimiri, a Baylor student.

Students feel anxious regarding which direction their school will take and who will be found responsible. Alleged victims have accused the school of ignoring pleas for help and justice when confronted with the assaults.

"Instead of saying it's a Christian institution and nothing like that happens, it does," said Jacqueline Gonzalez, a Baylor student.

It happened to people like Jasmin Hernandez.

"The school completely neglected my needs," said Hernandez. She filed a lawsuit earlier in the year, claiming the school did nothing after she was raped by linebacker Tevin Elliot.

"I didn't realize they were federally required to sort of address these issues," said Hernandez.

Elliot was convicted of raping Hernandez and is serving 20 years in prison.

Defensive end Sam Ukwuachua was also convicted of raping a female soccer player.

Some feel the weight of responsibility of the situation should fall on Starr's shoulders.

"If it is true, not that I'm saying it is or it isn't, that we have been neglecting it, then it needs to be put out there," remarked one student.

Baylor said it is still reviewing an independent report regarding how the sex assaults were handled.

The school said it is expecting to make an announcement June 3, 2016.
