Ballet Dancer Misty Copeland Now Has Her Own Barbie Doll

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Misty Copeland, the first black principal dancer in the American Ballet Theatre, has been honored with her own Barbie doll.
The doll, made up as Misty when she danced the principal role in the American Ballet Theatre's production of "The Firebird" at the Metropolitan Opera House, is featured in The Barbie Collection -- part of Mattel's Barbie Sheroes program, honoring femaleheroes who inspire girls by having broken through boundaries and expanded possibilities for women everywhere.
A statement describing the doll on the Mattel website says, in part, "Misty Copeland is an inspirational star, paving the way for future dancers all over the world!"
Copeland was intimately involved in the doll's design and partnered with the Barbie design team on all the details, Mattel said.
"I always dreamed of becoming an ABT ballerina and through Barbie I was able to play out those dreams early on," Copeland said in a statement. "It's an honor to be able to inspire the next generation of kids with my very own Barbie doll."
Mattel official say the Misty Copeland doll is available for purchase online and will soon be in stores nationwide
