FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Police equipment including a badge, AR-15 rifle and ballistic vest are missing after a car burglary in Fort Worth. Southlake police confirmed the items were stolen from the personal vehicle of one of their officers.

A police incident report in Fort Worth shows Brandon Lovett reported the items stolen Friday. The report says the items were likely taken sometime between Tuesday, August 18 and Thursday, August 20.

A list of neighborhood crimes regularly sent out to residents in the area where Lovett lives noted that the car was believed to have been locked, but there was no sign of forced entry. It also says there is no suspect, or evidence, but Lovett may have video.

A Southlake police spokesperson told CBS 11 News that department policy is to keep all firearms and equipment locked inside a building, not in a car.

In an emailed statement, Police Chief James Brandon wrote:

"An internal investigation has been initiated, and the department will take appropriate action at the conclusion of that investigation."
