DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - On this last day before Christmas, during the final hours, Northpark Mall in Dallas is packed with people practicing the usual tradition.

Diasha Richey is among the last minute shoppers. "It's a little hectic for me."

Aaron Kerwood says he got a late start. "Yeah, most of it today."

Among all those racing the clock, we found the Hix family of Colleyville. Janet Hix says, "This is a family tradition for us. We call it the mall crawl."

For 22 years, they have always come here  not to shop, but to spread some Christmas cheer for their own family fun.

His says, "I'm Mrs. Claus and my cape is actually a tree skirt., so I try to be creative."

Richard Hix wears a Santa hat. "And I have to grow my beard tonight It grows overnight."

Their children, now grown, still come and play along.

And every year, they say, without fail, families with young children stop them to have their pictures taken.

Richard Hix says, "We've had about a half a dozen little ones come up who are convinced."

Janet says, "And they want hugs from Santa and Mrs. Claus."

Deaundrae Reed and Keanndra Kizzee of Dallas couldn't get a ticket for their daughter Naquita's first visit with the mall's Santa Claus.

So when they saw the Hix family, it really was a Christmas dream come true.

Reed says, "Even though they may be strangers to us, we might be strangers to them, but it's the Christmas spirit that brings everyone together."

Kizzee says, "Giving, just being loved, loving anyone else, it's not all about receiving." For the Hix family, giving is receiving.

Janet Hix says, "It just fills our heart. "It's not really about the shopping, it's just more about being with people and feeling the spirit of Christmas."
