Arlington Wal-Mart Employees Join National Boycott Against Unfair Wages

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Wal-Mart Employees at an Arlington store joined the nationwide Black Friday job protests over hourly wages.

The retailer is the largest employer in the nation. Some workers have complained about what they call "low pay".

Shomari Lewis from Arlington earns 9.70 an hour, after three years of service.

He and others believe the company's profit margin allows for at least $15 an hour and more full time work.

"We make $9.70, others making $7, that's why they fuss about it, it's impossible to live on," explained a frustrated Lewis.

The larger national labor strike starts Friday. The company CEO has said six thousand of 1.4 million employees are paid minimum wage.

Thursday Brooke Buchanan, a representatives from Walmart, released a statement on the protest saying: "We're focused on serving out customers during the kickoff of the holiday season and everyday we are focused on providing out Walmart associates endless career opportunities. Unfortunately the Labor Unions are crushing the holiday spirit and focused on the wrong things today."
