FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - American Airlines, US Airways and their regional carriers have canceled almost 1,800 flights due to winter storms in the Midwest and Northeast.

A spokeswoman for Fort Worth-based American says about 880 flights were canceled Monday. Andrea Huguely says the carriers on Sunday canceled nearly 900 flights.

Huguely says the cancellations are mainly in the Chicago, Boston and New York City areas. She says American on Monday afternoon resumed service at the three main airports serving the New York City area. Very heavy snow in Boston continued to hamper flights.

Dallas-based Southwest Airlines canceled more than 300 flights Monday due to the winter storm. Spokeswoman Brandy King says Southwest on Sunday had about 400 cancellations.
