American Eagle To Change Name To Envoy

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) -- To distinguish itself from the newly formed American Airlines Group, regional carrier American Eagle is changing its name to Envoy in Spring 2014.

The new American Airlines Group unites 10 carriers -- including the newly named Envoy -- that currently provide regional service for the legacy American and US Airways networks. All of these carriers will eventually fly under the American Eagle brand, according to the airline.

"Our people and our company – which is one the largest regional carriers in the world with some of the best people in our business – deserve a name that is all our own," said Pedro Fábregas, the president and CEO of American Eagle Airlines. "By taking on the Envoy name, we can better differentiate ourselves from the competition and better market ourselves. This is important for both our people and our company as we further expand our ground handling business."

The name Envoy was chosen after an extensive process that included more than 1,000 potential names and input from employees. The name was chosen because it "is reflective of what the company does for the airlines it works with – serving as their ambassador and a representative to their customers," says the airline.

All ticket counters and gates will continue to be branded by American and American Eagle. All aircraft will continue to use the American Eagle brand and livery, but will add "Operated by Envoy" once the process is complete.

American Eagle Airlines currently has more than 14,000 employees.
