DALLAS COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - A man who allegedly stole a car in Mesquite Monday, was caught Wednesday.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Department says a deputy pulled over Chivas Blair Smith, 41, at Walnut Hill near Denton Drive.

As the officer was conducting his background search, Smith allegedly took off.

A chase ensued and Smith crashed into a tree off Webb Chapel as he tried to turn into a business's parking lot.  Smith was not seriously hurt.

The Sheriff's Department says Smith likely faces charges for felony evading arrest, unauthorized use of a vehicle and theft.

He was most recently booked into jail for theft of property over $2,500, but less than $30,000 on February 4.
