Set an alarm reminder on your phone for the "Super Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse" this SUNDAY evening.
The image above has the times for DFW. I've also included a table of times below for other time zones.
Why is it called "Super Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse"?
It is the "Super Moon" because the moon will be full at it's closest points of the year during its elliptical orbit. It will look about 14% bigger than a typical full moon. Slightly noticeable.
It is the "Blood Moon" because it seems lunar eclipses are referred to as blood moons because of the reddish tint the moon appears during the eclipse.
This month's full moon is actually named the "Harvest Moon". That's because before modern farming equipment with lights, farmers would gather their crops well into the night with the help of the light from the full moon. And September is big harvest time!
The next Lunar Eclipse to occur when the moon is considered to be "Super" is not until 2033. So get out and see it!
The next Total Lunar Eclipse visible for North Texas is not until January 2019. There will be some partial eclipses visible between now and then.
