Aikman Makes Millions Off Chicken Wings

By Mike Fisher | @fishsports

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) -- Two decades ago, Troy Aikman and some of his Cowboys teammates needed a Thursday night place near the team's Valley Ranch headquarters to grab a meal. Among their hangouts: a Wingstop just down the street.

"At the time, it was a natural fit," Aikman tells ESPN, and now, a dozen years after becoming the company's celebrity spokesman, Aikman's stock in the firm that went public Friday is worth millions.

Shares priced at $18 quickly jumped 61 percent in value on Friday and then closed at $30.59. The result: Those who sold stock netted close to $70 million.

Aikman, the Hall-of-Fame QB now the lead NFL analyst on FOX Sports, made a fortune off the deal.

And what was a "natural fit'' back in his playing days is a financial bonanza now…all because Troy and some of the fellas were once hungry for chicken wings.
