WICHITA FALLS (AP) – A Texas man has been convicted on charges that he took two-dozen dogs from an animal shelter after the dogs had been seized from him by police investigating whether some had been mistreated.

Lee Allen Miller pleaded guilty Friday in a Wichita Falls court to a felony count of tampering with evidence. He is expected to serve about a month in jail.

The dogs were confiscated last year by Iowa Park police and placed at the shelter as they investigated allegations of animal cruelty.

Authorities later learned, in October 2015, that the dogs were missing from the shelter.

Miller denied any involvement, but the dogs were later found concealed in brush near a school where Miller worked.
