ALLEN (CBSDFW.COM) - The Allen Independent School District is just days away from opening its newly repaired Eagle Stadium. Structural repairs wrap up on Wednesday, leaving only the traffic topping to still be fixed. Construction crews blamed delays on the recent rainy weather.

Eagle Stadium was closed last spring due to major structural problems. The concern for some time has been whether or not the $60 million stadium would be fixed in time for graduation on June 5.

Concession stands, entry towers and beams over the gate ramps are among the things already repaired.

Monday night, the construction company behind this project told the school board that the ceremony could go on even if the traffic topping is not complete. Traffic topping is a coating that covers the concourse walking area.

Crews working on the project explained to the Allen ISD school board that they just need three days of good weather to let the traffic topping properly seal. But, if that does not happen, crews will put an alternative coating down and redo it after the graduation ceremony.

"We have not paid a penny for anything on this stadium to date. And you know completing the work on time at no cost to the school district has been our goal from the start," said Allen ISD Superintendent Dr. Lance Hindt. The contractor and the architectural firm has paid the school district $2.5 million for expenses lost since closing the stadium, and had already agreed to pay for the construction costs without billing the district.
