PLANO (CBS11) - Christ United Methodist Church in Plano held a very special dinner and ceremony honoring more than 50 congregants who have been married for more than 50 years.

Many in attendance spoke about their love stories and offered advice or the so called "secret" to keeping a long lasting marriage.

Helen and Herb Hoxie were the most veteran of the group being married for 70 years.

Herb Hoxie said the key was simple. "Trust in each other. We don't keep secrets from each other," said Hoxie.

He and his wife met and married back in 1945 when they were attending Michigan State University.

The event organizers wanted to re-create what most wedding ceremonies were like 50 years ago. So keeping with American tradition of those times they served cake, punch, peanuts, and mints.

Organizer Marilyn Smith said, "I think it brings all these people together and they are very proud of the fact that they have been married for 50 years or longer."

Those in attendance said their stories prove that long lasting love can be attainable.
