DALLAS (1080 KRLD) About 300,000 new residents have just moved into Dallas's Omni Hotel and they're all abuzz.

The roof of the Omni has just become home to swarms of rescued honeybees. They were all rescued from the DFW area by the American Honeybee Protection Agency, an organization which rescues and relocates hives without destroying them.

Walter Schumacher started the agency and says as far as the Omni chefs are concerned, the bees are very welcome guests.

"By the time October rolls around, we should end up with a couple hundred pounds of honey that the hotel will exclusively use" said Schumacher.

The rooftop will also become home to a garden where flowers and plants will grow that will feed both bees and hotel guests.

Schumacher says they aren't concerned that the bees will bother the guests because in areas like the pool they'll grow plants that bees don't like - but humans do.
