NORTH RICHLAND HILLS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — North Richland Hills police say three people were killed in an early morning wreck when a vehicle exited a highway, failed to stop at a red light and struck a series of traffic barriers.

North Richland Hills police said in a statement the vehicle was traveling westbound on Interstate 820, northeast of Fort Worth, when it exited around early Sunday. Officers responded to the crash at I-820 at Iron Horse Boulevard around 2:30 a.m., the department said.

Authorities say it's unclear why the driver failed to stop before the vehicle struck a guardrail, a concrete wall and then careened over a second concrete barrier before coming to rest.

One person was ejected before the vehicle was engulfed by flames. The two other bodies were found inside after the fire was extinguished.

Police did not release the names of the dead.
