IOWA PARK (AP) - Two dozen Italian Greyhounds seized in a raid on a suspected North Texas puppy mill have been recovered after they were stolen from an animal shelter.

Authorities say they believe the 24 greyhounds, some of national champion quality, were stolen around daybreak Thursday from a temporary shelter in Iowa Park, about 10 miles west of Wichita Falls. Iowa Park police lt. Jimmy Eaton said the dogs were about 40 dogs seized Monday from a suspected puppy mill in an Iowa Park warehouse.

Eaton said an all-day search turned up nothing until an anonymous telephone tip came in about 4 p.m. Thursday, saying dogs matching the description of the missing greyhounds were seen in nearby Clay County.

Eaton said a suspect is in custody facing a possible felony evidence tampering charge.
