DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Investigators in Dallas said that arson is to blame for two fires that happened Thursday morning, just a few blocks apart from each other. However, it is still not known if the incidents are connected.

Emergency crews responded to the first blaze at about 1:45 a.m. in the Fair Park area, at a single-story home located in the 2900 block of Birmingham Avenue. Large flames and smoke were shooting out from the building when firefighters arrived at the scene.

Officials stated that the fire started outside in a plastic trash container that was intentionally ignited against the home's wall. The flames then spread up the wall and into the roof of the structure. Two homeless individuals were inside of the building when the fire began. Both of them were able to escape without injury.

A man who lives across the street from the home captured the incident on his cell phone, and said that he could feel the heat from the flames while crews worked to extinguish the fire. The house was left with severe damage.

Then, about 45 minutes later, there were reports of a grass fire located less than half a mile away from the first blaze, at a home in the 2700 block of Lenway Street. The flames were quickly put out, causing minor damage to the house. There was nobody inside of this home.

Although both fires have been determined to be acts of arson, fire investigators cannot yet say if they are connected, or who could be responsible for starting the blazes.
