Man fatally shot by Arlington officer after charging with knife: Police

Arlington officer shoots, kills knife-wielding suspect

ARLINGTON – A man was fatally shot by police Thursday evening after he exited an apartment and charged officers with a knife, Arlington police said.

The shooting occurred at an apartment complex in the 2700 block of Lawrence Road and near NE Green Oaks Boulevard and North Collins Street.

No officers were injured, according to the Arlington Police Department. They responded to the scene just after 4:40 p.m.

During a news conference, Arlington police said officers told the man to drop the knife, and when he didn't comply and instead charged an officer, the officer fired. The man took off running, ultimately raising the knife, and the officer fired again. The man ran into a field while still being chased. A second officer deployed a Taser, immobilizing the man. Officers found the man had a gunshot wound after he was taken into custody. He was taken to the hospital, where he died, police said.

According to police, the call came from a man who said he had stabbed another man to death, but police said they had no evidence anyone had been stabbed.

"Per department policy, the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave," Arlington police said in a news release.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will release the deceased man's identity after next of kin have been notified, police said.
