GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) — A crash involving a tractor-trailer killed one person early Saturday morning.

Grand Prairie police say a Ford Mustang was driving slowly in the right lane on westbound I-30 between Belt Line Road and Carrier Parkway around 12:45 a.m. when it was hit from behind by a tractor-trailer. The Mustang was dragged alongside the tractor-trailer until it was pinned against a barrier. Both vehicles caught fire.

The 37-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer — Edmond Palmore from Piedmont, Alabama — escaped from the truck and was taken to Arlington Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, police say. The driver of the Mustang was trapped and died at the scene.

This is the fourth traffic fatality in Grand Prairie this year.

Police say the Mustang possibly had a flat tire, and its hazard lights were on. The driver's identity has not been released.

The truck was carrying dozens of washing machines that firefighters needed to unload so they could put the fire out, according to police. I-30 westbound at Belt Line Road was closed until 11:30 a.m. while hazardous materials crews cleared the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
