Truck Slams Into Occupied Home In San Francisco's Merced Heights
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A truck crashed into an occupied home in San Francisco's Merced Heights neighborhood Tuesday morning, fire officials said.
At about 8:17 a.m., the flatbed truck rolled backwards while on the 800 block of Shields St. into a house on the corner of Shields and Monticello St.
The truck hit a hydrant, two stop signs and a light pole before coming to rest with the rear of the truck smashed into the house.
A couple who live in the house were inside at the time of the crash, one who saw it happen. "Just as I opened the curtains, it hit. The back of the truck and all the dust and the debris hit the window," said Ray Childs. "I jumped away because I thought it was going to come through the glass. And the first thing I smelled was burnt rubber or breaks burning."
"I heard this really loud ... it shook the house. I thought it was an earthquake or something," said Karen White-Childs. "I am just highly upset because this has put us out right now."
No injuries were reported, but there is structural damage to the building and high-voltage wires fell down, according to the fire department.
PG&E crews are responding as well as San Francisco police, firefighters and city building inspectors, fire officials said.

The driver was cited for driving in the wrong class and having no insurance.
The cause has not been determined; it was unknown if the brakes failed or it was due to driver error.
