Truck Driver Returns After Hit-&-Run With Light Rail Train In San Jose
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – A truck driver who hit a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority light-rail train and then fled the area in San Jose Tuesday morning returned about an hour later, a VTA spokeswoman said.
The driver of the blue Ford pickup truck that hit the train near the Karina station at 9:08 a.m. had a suspended license, VTA spokeswoman Stacey Hendler Ross said.
His truck was impounded and he was cited for driving with a suspended license, Hendler Ross said. The driver, whose name is not yet being released, apparently had passengers with him at the time of the crash, but they weren't with him when he returned.
None of the 60 passengers on board the train were injured. They were taken to the Karina station and boarded a different train, Hendler Ross said.
The train was taken out of service. Other trains were single-tracking through the area but service disruptions were minimal, she said.
Normal service resumed by shortly after 10 a.m., VTA officials said.
