'Rocket Skates' Funding Campaign Soaring On Kickstarter

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A startup campaign aimed at mass producing motorized roller skates has shot past online funding goals in less than 24 hours.

Unlike the jet-fueled Wile E. Coyote footwear of your childhood, the lithium-ion powered "Rocket Skates" will strap on right over your shoes. The skates are foot rather than remote controlled, weigh seven pounds and can reach speeds of up to 12 MPH. The inventors say you can even track your routes and skate performance through your smartphone. Here's a demo:

The skate creators had hoped to secure $50,000 in funding to roll out three different models. Those who pledged $199 or more were promised a pair. That offer sold out in less than 24 hours, and the campaign had already totaled more than $65,000 in funding in just over a day.
