Richmond Man Arrested On Human Trafficking, Extortion Charges

RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- A 29-year-old man was arrested Friday evening at his home in Richmond on suspicion of human trafficking, threats and extortion, San Rafael police said Sunday.

Carl Washington was booked into the Marin County Jail on $500,000 bail.

Police allege that earlier this month a juvenile from San Rafael met Washington and established a connection with him.

Police also allege Washington groomed her for prostitution, bought her clothing, gave her drugs and took her where she could learn from other prostitutes.

Then Washington took her to the San Jose area where she engaged in sex for money, police allege.

After two days, the girl did not want to participate any more in the activities with Washington, but he sent her text messages and called and threatened her and her family, police said.

Washington allegedly demanded $10,000 or $500 a day to leave the girl and her family alone.
