Fire Damages Postino Restaurant In Lafayette

LAFAYETTE (CBS SF) -- A popular high-end Italian restaurant was damaged by a fire fire Tuesday evening on Mt. Diablo Boulevard in Lafayette, police and county fire officials said.

Shortly before 7 p.m., authorities responded to a fire burning at Postino, a restaurant at 3565 Mt. Diablo Boulevard, police and Steve Hill, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District spokesman said.

Contra Costa Fire said that the fire began in the kitchen of the restaurant. The main fire was quickly contained, but pockets in the attic areas were still being attacked. Officials said that they completed a primary search and that the building was evacuated with no injuries.

At around 11 p.m., Contra Costa Fire said that they were remaining on scene as the fire was in overhaul, expected to last several hours. They said the fire was not suspicious, but the building sustained extensive smoke and water damage.

Contra Costa Fire was being assisted by Moraga-Orinda Fire. The two departments proceeded with caution to preserve the structure.

Mt. Diablo opened in both directions around 10:30 p.m.
