Panhandlers Arrested For Stabbing Bar-Goers In Berkeley

BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- Two panhandlers were arrested for allegedly stabbing two bar-goers in Berkeley early Saturday morning, according to police.

The two victims were leaving a bar near the intersection of Telegraph Avenue and Channing Way at 1:39 a.m. Saturday when the two panhandlers approached them, University of California at Berkeley police said.

The four men got into a fight and during the confrontation, the panhandlers stabbed the two bar patrons, according to UC police.

The two victims, ages 22 and 24, were taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland to be treated for stab wounds. They were seriously injured but the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Berkeley police Officer Jennifer Coats said.

University police officers detained the two panhandlers and once they were identified as suspects in the stabbing, they were arrested by Berkeley city police.

The two suspects were identified as 20-year-old Jacob Salisbury and 29-year-old Jeremiah Vincent, Coats said. The two men are believed to be homeless.

Salisbury remained in custody at Berkeley Jail this afternoon on $30,000 bail. He was scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon, according to jail records.
