Heads Up! There's A Supermoon Tonight
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The moon will look bigger, brighter and fuller Saturday night. That's because it's a supermoon.
Scientists call it a perigee full moon, when the moon's orbit is at its closest to earth.
Superstitions abound when it comes to supermoons. Some people believe they portend disaster -- earthquakes, floods and tidal waves. However, there is no scientific proof to back up those claims.
Saturday night's super moon is the first of three this year. The next supermoons will occur on September 28 and October 27.
The Bay Area weather forecast for is partly cloudy skies in some areas, and the sun sets at 7:43 p.m.
So go outside and be dazzled. The supermoon is the best show in town... and it's free.
