Larry Magid: Microsoft's OneDrive To Challenge Other Cloud Sharing Services

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Microsoft has relaunched its consumer cloud storage service, with its rebranded OneDrive.

The service was originally called SkyDrive, but Microsoft was forced to rebrand after British Sky Broadcasting sued and won a trademark lawsuit over the use of the name.

Along with the name change, there are some added features with OneDrive. Microsoft is offering 10 gigabytes of storage, improved video sharing capabilities and has also added the ability for more real-time collaboration, similar to Google Docs.

Although OneDrive is compatible with Apple and Android apps, it does hold advantages for those using Microsoft Office, as users can bring up an online version of an Office document.

OneDrive is just the latest in the increasing number of cloud-sharing services being offered by different tech companies.
