Cal State Plans To Keep Schools Open, Add Security If Faculty Strikes
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS / AP) -- The California State University system says it is scheduling extra security, reminding students about their academic obligations and taking other steps to minimize the disruption of a potential faculty strike next month.
Vice Chancellor for Human Resources Lori Lamb told the system's Board of Trustees on Tuesday that the system expects its 23 campuses to remain open and some classes to be held during the five-day strike scheduled by the California Faculty Association.
Lamb says administrators also are telling professors and instructors it's illegal for them to promote the strike during their classes in the weeks ahead.
Union President Jennifer Eagan disputes that and says the system is trying to intimidate the faculty.
CFA and Cal State are at odds over the size of the pay raises the union's 26,000 members will receive this year.
