40 MPH Wind Gusts Possible For Bay Area As Cold Front Approaches
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- You may have notice that the winds increased Monday afternoon, occasionally gusting over 20 miles an hour in San Francisco, Concord, and San Jose. That's just the beginning of what will be a blustery 36-hour period in the Bay Area.
A cold front is approaching us, and wind is being pulled up from the south and southwest ahead of the front. Once the front moves through tonight – without any rainfall, I might add – the winds will intensify and change direction. By Tuesday morning, winds will be gusting to 25-35 miles an hour, and winds will reach their peak around lunchtime Tuesday (30-40 mph gusts).
No wind advisories or wind warnings have been issued, and this will not be nearly as intense as the wind events we had in late December and early February, but it will certainly blow lots of dust and pollen around your neighborhood. It will also usher in much cooler air, with temperatures dropping 8-12 degrees when compared to Monday's high temperatures away from the water.
So hold onto your hat and/or use an extra pump of hairspray. It's going to be a windy Tuesday.
