Sacramento Kings Fire Coach Dave Joerger

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The Sacramento Kings have fired head coach Dave Joerger a day after the final regular season game.

The move comes on the same day that the team announced they had extended the contract of GM Vlade Divac.

"After evaluating the season, I determined that we need to move in a different direction in order to take us to the next level," Divac said in a statement on Joerger's firing.

While the team finished under .500, this past season saw the most wins (39-43) for the Kings in over a decade.

Joerger finishes with a 98-148 record with the Kings over the past three seasons.

The next coach will be the 10th head coach for the Kings since Rick Aldeman's contract wasn't renewed.

Divac's extension keeps him through the 2022-23 season. Divac was also announced this past weekend as one of the players who will be indicted in the 2019 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame class.
