Thieves Target Hoverboards At Sacramento Store

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A local businessman hopes cameras will help lead to an arrest.

It may be this season's hottest holiday gift: the hoverboard. Doug Stabler has seen a huge demand for these gadgets at his ATV store on Auburn Boulevard, but he never expected to be the victim of a hoverboard heist.

"You can see them walking in they all came in hoodies," said Doug Stabler, owner of ATV Wholesale Outlet.

The store's surveillance cameras captured video of three suspects storming the store then grabbing a stack of hoverboard boxes before they go.

"And the one guy comes straight over to the cash register and he just tries to grab as many as he can," said Stabler.

A $1,000 worth of goods is gone in 20 seconds.

"There goes one, there goes the other, there goes the other," he says.

He says at least seven suspects were involved in the heist, coming in two different cars. It's a tough economic loss for a small business owner

"Every penny hurts; we've got employees to pay and families to feed, and bills and overhead and all that sort of thing so it'd be really nice if they could catch these guys"

Doug has turned over the video to the sheriff's department and he's now taking extra security measures to make sure this never happen again.
