Isleton Postal Worker Drives 1 Million Miles Without Crash
ISLETON (CBS13) - A local United States postal worker is being recognized for a pretty big feat: driving a million miles in her work vehicle without one accident.
Imagine driving around the world more than 40 times, and during that trip, never getting into even a single preventable accident. That's what carrier Azalee Bettencourt did recently, according to a U.S. Postal Service statement.
A 37-year veteran of the service, Bettencourt is Isleton's only rural letter carrier.
What does Bettencourt say is the key to her perfect driving record? "Beware of your surroundings. Always look and listen before moving the vehicle," she says.
Bettencourt will be inducted into the "Million Mile Club" on May 15 at 10 a.m. at the Isleton Post Office.
According to the National Safety Council, it takes approximately 30 years to accumulate 1 million miles.
