SONOMA COUNTY (CBS13) - A CHP officer near Santa Rosa rescued a pig that was wandering along the Highway.

According to CBS5 in San Francisco, Officer Ken Enger spotted the pig along highway 12 near Merced Avenue Friday morning after being told the animal was on the loose.

"He was sleeping in the sun, on the right shoulder, relaxing," Enger said.

The pig weighs between 600-800 pounds.

Sonoma County Animal Services is searching for the animal's owner.

A similar thing happened in Sacramento in October when a 500-pound pig was found wandering near Highway 99 and Broadway.

It was taken to Front Street Animal shelter. It's unknown if it was ultimately reunited with its owners or adopted out.
