Sunday's Great Race Features Corporate Challenge

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- In the high-pressured world of high finance, the brokers and bond traders at Federated Investors compete every weekday for your investment dollars.

"We're in a competitive industry and you want competitive people, and no one is more competitive than athletes," said Robert Ostrowski, of Federated Investors.

In today's business world, gone are the days of the three martini lunch. At Federated, the noon hour is spent on the city's riverside trails logging training miles.

The perfect antidote to stress.

"It's really a good way to get outside, get some fresh air and refocus your thoughts," said the company's Kevin Fitzpatrick.

But it's not all just getting healthy; Team Federated will be competing once again this year in the Great Race Corporate Challenge.

And they hope their team of four will once again claim the prized Corporate Cup, which is awarded to the company with the four fastest runners. It's an increasingly fierce competition.

Fitzpatrick: "New companies that have hit the Pittsburgh market are moving up in the standing,s so it's definitely a competitive environment."

KDKA's Andy Sheehan: "But you have the bragging rights?"

Fitzpatrick: "Absolutely."

The investments house has a men's and a women's team.

It's all part of a growing number of runners, cyclists and in-line skaters who work the trails every day and are transforming this region into a fitness mecca.
