Residents, Several Pets Safe After Troy Hill Fire

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Four people and several animals were rescued from an apartment fire in the Troy Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh's North Side on Saturday morning.
Firefighters were sent to a two-unit apartment building at the intersection of Lowrie and Lofink Street around 9 a.m.
Crews put out the flames quickly, but the building was heavily damaged.
Tera Allshouse was heading to work when someone called and said her house was on fire.
"I don't even know what caused it to catch on fire. I was home literally 10 minutes before this even happened. I lost everything," she said.

At first, Allshouse thought her three dogs and two cats died in the fire, but the cats were seen running away from the building and all three dogs were rescued.
"They came out. They weren't breathing. They had to give them oxygen to bring them back," Allshouse said.
Despite the loss of possessions, residents learned they didn't lose everything. Eight pets were all saved.
The American Red Cross is assisting the occupants with food, clothing and shelter.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
