Report: 3-Year-Old Boy Returns Home After Summer Idlewild Accident

JEANNETTE (KDKA) -- The 3-year-old boy who fell from an Idlewild roller coaster in August has reportedly returned home from the hospital.

The Tribune-Review reported Friday night that Declan McClain had returned to his Jeannette home from the hospital.

McClain was ejected from the Rollo Coaster at Idlewild Park on Aug. 11 and fell approximately 12 feet, landing on the tracks near a fence. Sources said he was initially unresponsive and discolored, but he was conscious when he was flown to Children's Hospital. McClain was riding the coaster with his 6-year-old brother.

The Rollo Coaster had been inspected five days prior to the incident. The ride was shut down for the remainder of the season afterward.

The Tribune-Review reports that Westmoreland County Detectives, the state Department of Agriculture and a third-party inspector are still investigating the incident.
