Police Make Arrests In Monessen Arsons

MONESSEN (KDKA) -- Three people are facing charges in connection with several vacant building fires in Monessen over the past few weeks.

The Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports Tyler Canzonieri and Shaka Tansmore are charged with setting a house fire at the corner of Ninth Street and Knox Avenue on Dec. 29.

Also, the Trib reports a 17-year-old boy is charged with allegedly setting three fires on Jan. 16 and 17.

The teen is also facing counts of risking a catastrophe when, according to the Tribune Review, he got into a fire truck while firefighters were trying to put out one of the fires.

All are facing arson and related charges.

The fires put neighbors and officials on edge. Some worried about the number of vacant structures in Monessen.

"In a four block radius, there's over 50 abandoned homes, so I guess you can expect, we can expect more of this," said Alan Duncan, a resident of Monessen.
