Police Investigating Thefts At Monroeville LA Fitness

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Personal items are going missing at a popular local fitness center.

Monroeville Police said it's been a combination of items stolen from cars in the lot as well as lockers inside a LA Fitness and it's been going on for several years, with the latest happening just last night.

The latest victim used a padlock to lock up his jacket and car keys while he worked out at the LA Fitness in Monroeville Monday night. But, when he returned to the locker, something was missing.

"My car keys were not in my locked locker. They were in an unlocked locker next to mine," the victim said.

The victim said that when he got to his car he then noticed that his wallet, which he left in a glove compartment, had been riffled through and several items were missing.

"About a week or so ago, there's been reports in the men's locker room that people are breaking in. I'm definitely not the first to have this happen to. So, I decided it's safe to leave my stuff in my car," he said.

Monroeville Police said since 2010, they've had at least two dozen reports of similar crimes. Pad locks were easily removed using a special tool and items were either stolen from the lockers or taken from the cars in the lot.

The latest victim is hoping to review surveillance video today to help in the investigation.

"There's a thief running around, stealing things from individual's lockers. This cannot go on," he said.

Monroeville Police said no arrests have been made at this time. It's unknown whether more than one person is involved or if the thefts over the years are connected.
