Community Remembers Fallen St. Clair Twp. Officer One Year Later
NEW FLORENCE, Pa. (KDKA) -- A community gathered Saturday evening to remember a police officer who was shot and killed on Nov. 28, 2015.
A candlelight vigil marking the upcoming 1-year anniversary of Officer Lloyd Reed's death was held at Memory Park at 7 p.m.
St. Clair Township Police officer Lloyd Reed was shot when responding to a domestic dispute in New Florence and later died at the hospital.
He was 54.
"Tonight is full with symbolism, Chief Hess as we were driving here, he mentioned that it was like a "last ride" for Lloyd. Because one year ago today, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Lloyd had Thanksgiving dinner with his family, with his broth-in-law, sister-in-law, his nieces, his wife, he got to meet his great-nephew for the first time, and then he told everyone goodbye and came to work," one speaker said.
Reed served the St. Clair Township community as a police officer for five years before his death. However, he had been a police officer for a total of 25 years.
Fellow officers called him a cop's cop and a good teacher.
