Workers At The Philadelphia International Airport Go On Strike

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Contracted workers at Philadelphia International Airport are protesting low wages in an industry that is racking in record prices. Workers in Philadelphia, and nine other airports across the country, were on strike on Thursday.

They want their employers to pay the new minimum wage of $12/hour to abide with the city's new sick days law.

"No one should have to come to work and have their job be threatened because they want to stand up to better themselves and their family," said airport employee Alfred Williams.

"We know we have workers here that worked hard for a lot of years," said Councilman Mark Squilla. "We want to keep them working hard for a lot of years. We want to make sure we have sustainable wages and that's important.

The workers also say that they want union rights and have concerns over their safety on the job.
