Woman's Blog Serves As Guide For Young People Living In The City Of Brotherly Love

By Kristina Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  It can be overwhelming trying to figure out the ins and outs of the city of Brotherly Love, so when Emily moved to Philadelphia after graduation she searched online for a resource to guide young women to the best places to eat, shop and have fun in the city.

After some investigating, she decided it was time to take matters into her own hands and she launched her blog, Her Philly.

She says her blog covers four areas: dining, shopping, playing and living in the city. "Plus a little chit chat section for all of the other stuff, because I like to talk a lot."

But you won't find any negative reviews, Emily intends to keep it positive. However, she admits, "I do vent sometimes, like I did about Philly Parking Problems, but I think most people will agree with me there!"

Still, her passion for the city life shines through when asked what she loves the most about Philadelphia.

"I love walking to spin class early on a weekend, stopping for a coffee, maybe picking up a few gems from a sidewalk sale or two, running some quick errands, and then popping up to my apartment to get ready for the day. The day really never has to stop when you live in this city, surrounded by all the fun. You're just upstairs, taking a little break, until you step outside and all the fun starts again."

It's been two years since she started blogging, and she says it has changed her life.

"The biggest change has been the connections. I have met so many bloggers, PR specialists, and brand representatives that I now consider some of my best buds. Second to that would be the experiences and opportunities. Without someone asking me to do it, I probably would never have tried spinning, attempted a juice cleanse, attended LuckyFABB, or sailed through the air on a trapeze. My blog has pushed me to be a better, happier version of myself."

Emily's blog serves as the perfect guide for anyone new to Philadelphia, or even a lifelong resident trying to switch up their routine.

"I've worked very hard to only post about things that I would genuinely be interested in myself, so when my readers have reached out to me or stopped me out and about in the city and I realize they're just like me, I feel like I've done my job."

As for Emily's favorite post? She says, "some of my favorites are the ones I don't have to think about, I just start writing. I call these babies 'having a moment,' and my favorites have to be my journey towards body confidence and how I found happiness as an adult."
