Woman Killed In Hit-Run In Delaware, Driver Charged With DUI

NEWARK, DEL. (CBS) -- Police say a woman was struck and killed by a DUI driver while crossing the road in Newark, Delaware, who then fled the scene.

It happened early Sunday morning near Chapel Street and Delaware Avenue.

Police say the victim, 22-year-old Amanda Hagelstein, and another person were attempting to cross Delaware Avenue when a pick-up truck approached. The other person stopped, but Hagelstein began to run across the road and was struck by the truck. She was rushed to Christiana Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Authorities say the driver, 21-year-old Kyle Loyd, left the scene, but was located and arrested a short time later by police.

Loyd has been charged with DUI and Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Death.
