What's Cooking on 1060: Gingerbread Season

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's gingerbread season!

Candice Muser, pastry chef at Davio's, says kids at this Sunday's 5th annual gingerbread workshop will get everything they need to build a gingerbread house.

"We help them assemble it, I have a little demonstration for them. We provide them with some lunch while the gingerbread houses dry. Afterwards, they'll load the houses up with as much candy as they would like to."

Muser says there's no wrong way to decorate a gingerbread house -- but if you're looking for artistic inspiration she has some ideas.

"For the roof, I do love the necco wafers. Tootsie rolls are great because you can mold them into a lot of different things; Charleston Chews you can do as logs, graham crackers you can use as windows. Just trying to look at candy in a different way."

So what age group is the workshop for?

"Like 6-12. And the kids, they really get involved and they love it and the parents love it and we have people that are coming back, it's their tradition and they build the houses every year."

She adds, they'll also have some more refined gingerbread houses on display at the restaurant, made by herself and other professional pastry chefs this week.

"Bobby Bennett of Classic Cake, he's creating a gingerbread house for our workshop, as well as the pastry chef from Brulee Catering. We are also going to have the pastry chef from the new Davio's location in King of Prussia participating."

Cost is $60 fo kids and $30 for adults.
