Weekend Box Office Report: 'Jason Bourne' With Matt Damon Cruises To Top Of Box Office

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- 'Jason Bourne' is born again... at the box office, anyways.

The fifth installment in the action-thriller franchise, with Matt Damon returning in the title role after sitting out the last one, earned an estimated $60-million on its opening weekend for an easy and solid first-place finish.

That bested last weekend's leader, 'Star Trek Beyond,' which took in another $24-million.

Right behind it in third place was the debuting maternal comedy, 'Bad Moms,' starring Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell, which totaled $23-million. And rounding out the top five were the animated comedy, 'The Secret Life of Pets,' with $18-million, and the horror thriller, 'Lights Out,' with $11-million.

Industry-wide totals weren't quite up to those of last weekend, but were well ahead of those of last year.

And with the highly anticipated 'Suicide Squad' headed into theaters, box-office expectations for next weekend are sky-high.
