Weekend Box Office Report: Dory Stays Afloat

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Dory just keeps swimming.

The record-setting animated sequel, Finding Dory, repeated as the first-place attraction at multiplexes over the weekend, earning another estimated $73-million on its second weekend of release.

Second place went to another debuting sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence, which totaled $42-million.

Third belonged to the holdover comedy, Central Intelligence, which took in $18-million.

And rounding out the top five were two of the weekend's other new mainstream attractions…

Fourth was the shark thriller, The Shallows, starring Blake Liveley, which took in $17-million. And fifth was the Civil War biodrama, Free State of Jones, with Matthew McConaughey, with a modest total of $8-million.

Overall, industry-wide totals were well below those of last weekend, but well above those of a year ago.
